The Teacher
Becca Kim is a pastor's kid who was always involved with music beginning in a church setting. From her youth, she led and conducted choir and orchestra ensembles for church and performed as a solo pianist and a chamber musician. As a youth, she 'placed' in numerous festivals and competitions both in South Korea and U.S. and many of her summers were spent at college music camps where her study focused on piano performance and accompanying of instrumentalists.

She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance from University of Colorado at Boulder where she studied under Larry Graham and David Korevarr. Her journey as a performer continued at Boston Conservatory but her passion for teaching redirected her to focus mainly on teaching, especially after having children of her own. Her three children and students are her inspiration. They motivate her to write piano teaching method books and create teaching tools for both teachers and students. Her latest lesson books are composition through delightful children's classical stories with a title of 'Piano Tales'. Her personal innovation, creativity, and love for teaching surely reflects in her books.

The Mission
With more than 25 years of teaching experiences, I believe in customized and tailored lessons to fit an individual's learning abilities, goals and their ages. Although I came from a strict classical background, I am always open to teach and introduce new genres from classical to jazz and rock and help students to enjoy all styles of music. I always strive to take students beyond the book to explore many avenues of musical expression.
My approach for students in the early stages aims to provide a strong foundation of reading and performance, focusing on studies of theory, dictation, rhythmic training, basic composition, sight reading and duet playing. At advanced levels, in-depth structural analysis is incorporated in the lesson plan, and a broad range of repertoire, performance practice and refinement of technique is at the core of my approach. I also believe in sharing and enriching other peoples' lives with music! Each year, I visit and play for seniors at nursing homes with students who wish to share their talent and love.
The Studio
Becca's home studio is located in north Sammamish (Close to Sahalee) and she has transformed her “family room” into a unique space providing all the amenities of a professional music studio within the comfort and privacy of a home environment. The studio is now the destination for piano students across the greater Sammamish area with a diverse student body ranging from kindergarteners to high school students.
